It is with great sadness and heartache that we the family announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Bertle Bryn Coffin, otherwise known as Bert. He was born January 5, 1949 and was the son of the late Margaret and Leo Coffin. Bert passed away suddenly at the QE11 with his loving wife and daughters by his side on June 18, 2019. Our world changed forever.
Bert is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Pauline (Boutilier); daughters Camie, Saundra (Erin) and Kitty (Karl); his beautiful granddaughters, Rebecca, Brynn, Maddy; his awesome grandsons, Riley and Brandon; the apple of his eye, his great granddaughter, Sandra. Also survived by five sisters, Lynda (Michel), Barbara, Valerie, Elizabeth and Nancy; brother, Joey all of Ontario. He will also be sadly missed by his brother-in-law, Danny Boutilier (Doris), Tom Shea, John Bedard; sisters-in-law, Elaine Saccary (Andy), Nancy Coffin as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his parents-in-law, Weldon and Millie Boutilier; brothers, Tony and Art; sister, Peggy; sister-in-law, Tena Shea.
He was employed with the military as a firefighter for 24 years in the Royal Canadian Navy serving on the HMCS Nipogon and HMCS Perserver stationed at CFB Comox, BC and CFB Toronto, ON and CFB Halifax, NS.
He was an avid Screaming Eagles, Toronto Maple Leaf and Toronto Blue Jays fan. He was a big supporter of his grandchildren activities, such as baseball, hockey, cadets, swimming, cheer, dance recitals and band. He was their #1 Fan.
In keeping with Bert’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A celebration of life will be held at the Gardiner Mines Community Hall Friday, June 21, 2019 from 6-9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the War Amps or the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer Patient Fund.
