It is will heavy hearts that we the family announce the peaceful passing of our dear sister, aunt and friend, Rita MacDonald, age 96, Monday, June 17, 2019 at Victoria Haven Nursing Home.
Born in Dominion, she was the daughter of the late Edward O. and Mary (Bennett) MacDonald. Rita was employed as a CNA at St. Joseph’s Hospital until her retirement. Rita was a very strong woman in faith. She had many great hobbies, she enjoyed taking pictures of nature, flowers, trees and all the beautiful things that surround her, always had a camera in her hand- an amateur photographer. She enjoyed travelling and going on road trips. She taught piano lessons, played the organ at her church. Rita took much pride in her garden, people would stop by and take pictures of her rock garden. She volunteered for many years with St. Vincent de Paul. She was a very kind and generous person, she loved being around children and had a special spot in her hearts for animals of all kinds Rita will be missed by all who knew her.
Rita is survived by her sister, Sr. Joseph Marie MacDonald CSM, Antigonish; sister-in-law, Anne; as well as many nieces and nephews especially nephews, Fr. Allie and Eugene, niece and caregiver, Marie.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, John H., Bro Eddie OMI, Joseph, George, Charlie and Bro Francis OMI; sisters, Theresa, Annie Mae, Genevieve and Bridget.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2019 from 6-9 p.m. at T.J.Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialist, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199). Funeral mass will take place 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport. Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
