Heaven needed another angel so God sent for him. John Michael Tomiczek passed away June 8, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney with his loving family by his side. Born on May 29, 1946 in Glace Bay to the late Roderick and Matilda(MacIsaac) Tomiczek into a family of 15.
A few words on a page cannot describe everything that John Michael was to us. A true family man that gave all for those he loved. His big smile was infectious. He always had a joke or story to tell and a prank to pull. John Michael loved being a miner for 34 years. Working in #26, Phalen, Lingan and Prince Mines. He was a proud member of the #26 mine rescue team, winning the national competition in the Yukon. He was an avid dart player and sports fan especially baseball (Go Jays) and hockey (Go Bruins).
Survived by his loving wife and best friend of 53 years, Andrea (Gardiner); only son, George (Michelle); his girls, Debbie (Tom)Burns, Paula (Shaun) McDonald and Andrea; granddaughters, Michelle, Gabriella and Eowyn; only grandson and namesake, John Michael; great grandchildren, Tyson, Ryder, Johnny and Jordyn; as well as his mother-in-law, Pauline Gardiner. Also survived by a special brother and Tim Horton’s buddy, Gregor; four sisters, two brothers, many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
He was predeceased by his sister, Tillie; brothers, Bruno, George, Stan, Murdock, Jimmy and Walter.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of will be held Monday, July 8, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199) with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
