Obituary of Conrad Harroun
Please share a memory of Conrad to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Conrad, age 79, passed away May 28, 2019, at Celtic Court in Sydney. Born in Springhill, he was the son of the late James G and Reta (McKay) Harroun.
Conrad started work at the Royal Bank of Canada in Amherst and continued on to Bedford, Annapolis Royal, New Glasgow, Halifax, Truro, Maitland and Whycocomagh. Upon leaving the bank, Conrad's next move was to settle back in Maitland where he worked for the NS Dept. of Consumer Affairs and Service NS until his early retirement due to ill health. Over his lifetime, Conrad volunteered much of his time to various service and community groups. He was a past member and treasurer of the Lions Club, Scouts Canada Tri-County Area, and the Maitland Volunteer Fire Department, just to name a few.
Conrad was married to Theresa Elizabeth (McNeil) Harroun. They met while both working at the Royal Bank and were constant companions until her unexpected death in January, 1996. During their years they had many happy times with their two boys. In the summers, they would travel across the Maritimes and receive family at their home. When the boys grew older Conrad and Theresa continued to travel visiting family and sharing a love of the Toronto Blue Jays. In his later years, after Theresa's passing, he resided with his son Patrick in Cape Breton prior to his move to Celtic Court.
Conrad is survived by his sons, Dan (Heather) in Halifax and Patrick (Nancy) in Glace Bay, and five grandchildren, Kate and Maddie; Connor, Robbie, and Theresa; and step grandchildren Kurt and Lauren. Also survived by brother, Gerald (Joyce) Harroun of Springhill, sister, Myrna (Jim) Wicks, Charlottetown, many nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law, Agnes Keeler of Dartmouth.
Funeral will be held in Truro on June 3, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Church at 2pm with Fr. Christinel Fratadi officiating. Reception and burial in Truro Cemetery to follow. Family flowers only by request. Memorial donations to a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank each and every current and past staff member at Celtic Court during Conrad's stay over the past 5 years. All the conversations, kind words, care and utmost compassion shown will never be forgotten and was a pleasant part of Conrad's path. We would also extend gratitude to Marg Gorveatte for her friendship with Conrad and his family.
