John F. Nicholl
Glace Bay
It is with heavy hearts we the family announce the passing of a devoted husband, son, brother and uncle, John Nicholl. At the age of 84, John passed away at the Glace Bay Hospital on May 3, 2019. Born in Carbonear, Newfoundland, John was the son of the late John and Roney Nicholl.
Johnny was a carpenter by trade and was a member of the local carpenters union. He took great pride in his work and had a strong work ethic. He always paid attention to detail and quality to whatever he laid his hands to. Besides working locally, Johnny worked in Greenland and Labrador. Johnny was a quiet, soft spoken, gentle man who had a special love for the outdoors. He loved to garden and to look after wildlife especially his much-loved rescue cat, Puppy.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joan (McIntyre). He is also survived by his brothers, Alex and Hayward; his sister, Jean (Walsh), and several nieces and nephews, all of who live throughout Newfoundland, Ontario and Alberta. He is also survived by his very special cousins, Dorothy and Mary Lou MacDougall.
Besides his parents, Johnny is predeceased by his brothers, Albert, Francis, Charl and two brothers who died in infancy, and by his sisters, Annie (Collett) and Louise (Parroit).
We wish to thank the staff of 3 East, Glace Bay Hospital for their professionalism, kindness and compassion. We also wish to thank T.J. Tracey’s Burial Specialists of Glace Bay for their professionalism, gentleness and compassion during this difficult time.
Interment will take place at a later date in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
