Mary Judith “Judy” Swartzack
Reserve Mines
It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Mary Judith “Judy” Swartzack, age 66, of Reserve Mines on Oct 24th, 2018, in the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, she was the youngest daughter of the late Mary and David LeBlanc (Chaisson) of Cheticamp.
Judy was a kind, gentle soul who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. Her family meant everything to her, especially her son JD and granddaughters, Matheson and Halle, with whom she referred to as “her world”. She was always up for company, and it wasn’t too often the house was empty. Many nights were spent in the kitchen or the garage listening to JD play music with his friends, who she thought of as her second sons. She was always up for a game of bingo or a trip to the casino. In her earlier years, she worked as the crossing guard on Main Street in Reserve Mines, where she would always carry pockets of change to give out to the kids. Loved by all who knew her, there will be no shortage of amazing memories to be cherished about Judy.
Left to mourn are her only son, JD (Crystal), Glace Bay; brothers, Leo (Doris), Reserve Mines, Donnie, Massachusetts; sister, Noreen Campbell, Ontario; granddaughters, Matheson and Halle; sister-in-law Marion, New Hampshire; as well as several nieces and nephews, and her special friend Betty.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Johnny; brother, Ernie; sisters, Ethel LeBlanc and Lorraine Engel; brothers-in-law David Engel and Gary Campbell.
Special thanks to the amazing nursing staff at the Glace Bay General and Regional Hospital for their kind, compassionate care in Judy’s final months.
