It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Fisher at the Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on May 21, 2019, with his special friends by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Frank and Agnes (MacKenzie) Fisher. Wayne was employed with the Sydney Steel Corp for many years in the Masonry Department and the Coke Ovens.
Wayne enjoyed listening to country music and skating. He was a member of the St. Anne’s Choir and enjoyed singing each week. He also enjoyed the many good times that he spent in Christmas Island with his friends and family. He was an avid hockey fan and watched the games on T.V. following all the team members.
Wayne is survived his dear friends and caregivers, Daniel and Judy Poirier; brother-in-law, Cameron MacPhee, niece, Angela and nephew, Glen; aunt Jean MacKenzie and family; the MacLellan-Fisher families; many cousins; as well as his good friends, Gus Seward and Lynn Campbell, Clarie (Geraldine) Shea, Lou Shepherd, Bill Delaney, Francis MacKenzie, Doug Johnson, Mike and Donnie MacAdam Fraser “Faisy’ Steel and Joe MacKenzie and many other longtime friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Glen Fisher and sister, Donna MacPhee.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 26, 2019, from 6-9 p.m., and Monday, May 27, 2019, from 9- 11 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. with Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating, all taking place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199). Reception to follow. Burial to take place in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wallace Rd. Glace Bay.
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Palliative Unit, CBRH for all their care given to Wayne and especially the singers.
