Obituary of Marie Butts

Marie Butts Glace Bay It is with saddened hearts that we the family announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Marie Butts on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Polly (Pratt) MacNeil. She was employed with Mendleson ‘s for many years. Marie enjoyed spending time with her treasured family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as “Ma Butts”. She will be missed dearly. Marie is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Neil Butts, Glace Bay; children, Jackie (Jacqueline), Donkin, Michael (Gail), Glace Bay, Dawn (Allie) Batten, Glace Bay; her wonderful grandchildren, Elaine, Erin, Amanda, Allan, Laura, Gabby, Sam, Catherine, Ryan, Jake, Emma; her eight precious great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Beryl (Joe) Kelly, Carmella (Ted) Michalik, Millie (Reg) MacDonald; as well as several nieces and nephews, who were like own. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her grandson, Christopher Butts and brother, Jimmy MacNeil. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2018 at St. Anne’s Parish, Glace Bay, with Father Duaine Devereaux officiating. Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Palliative Care Unit and the I.C.U for all your care and compassion given to Marie during her illness.
