John Richard Aucoin Glace Bay It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of John Aucoin on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Alfred and Mary (MacInnis) Aucoin. John was employed with the many coal mines of Cape Breton: Broughton, No. 20, No. 26, Lingan, Prince, Phalen and Lingan until his retirement. He enjoyed vintage cars, watching wrestling and especially western movies. John was a compulsive worker. After his retirement he was the caretaker of St. Anthony’s Church Cemetery and did odd jobs around the church. He also worked as a part-time personal attendant for several years, and he hauled his own coal up until the end. He enjoyed taking his dog Hollie for suppertime walks each day. John is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Josephine (Lecointe) Aucoin; children, Christopher Aucoin, Richard Aucoin, and Joleine Aucoin (Tristan Greer); sister, Julia (Ivan) Fitzpatrick; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Katie (Rannie) Gillis, Margie (Louis) Yates, Theresa (Alex) MacKenzie, Elizabeth (Eddie) Murphy, Clementine (Art) Parsons, Jessie (Michael) Denittis, Benny (Doreen), Eugene, Angus and Simon (June); step-brother, Bernie Hart (Annie), as well as his beloved dog, Hollie.
