Margie Madden Gillard Glace Bay It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother Margie Madden Gillard surrounded by her loving family at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility on Feb. 12, 2019. Mom liked to live life large and had many talents which came in handy when we were growing up in Glace Bay, NS. She could sew or knit anything that could keep us warm and we always felt good about ourselves in her “made with love” creations. She could turn her hand to anything including carpentry. Her and dad built our home and a lot of furniture in it. We lived in hard times but weren’t even aware of it because she made sure that we wanted for nothing. She loved sports of all kinds including skating, dancing, bowling, darts, fishing and watching sports on T.V. Her all time sports hero was Sidney Crosby. She loved spending time with family and friends in Margaree where we would all fish and swim in the Margaree River. She was also active in the community by volunteering as a Girl Guide leader, St. John’s Ambulance worker and was a member of the Glace Bay Kinettes. Mom was a woman of strong faith and was a member of Holy Cross Church. Besides her parents, John and Mary Brushett, she was predeceased by her first husband, John Madden; second husband, Willie Gillard; brothers, John, Collie and Charle; sister, Jean and baby Jack Meechan; stepson, Francis Gillard and stepson-in-law, Michael Toomey. She will be missed by her daughters, Margie Madden Meechan, Debbie Madden Johnston (Ken); son, Michael Madden (Bernadette); brothers, Fabian (Cassie) Brushett, Danny (Eileen) Brushett, Frank (Catherine) Brushett; sister, Shirley MacLellan (Roy), sisters-in-law, Harriet Brushett, Theresa Brushett, Bonnie Brushett, Rose MacCormick; grandchildren, Chris Meechan, Scott Meechan (Kim), Angela Wadden (Tommy), Tessa Johnston (Ryan). She was a proud “Super Nana” to Lilly, Ellie, Avery, Piper Meechan, Madison and Payton Wadden, Dylan and Chloe MacLean as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be also missed by her stepchildren, Marguerite Verbeski (Barry). Sandy Gillard (Cathy), Harold Gilard (Anita), Theresa Addicot (Bruce), Joan Toomey and 15 step-grandchildren. We love you mom and you will live in our hearts and our thoughts forever. You are not leaving us, you are just moving on to your next chapter. We would like to thank the staff at Maple Hill Manor and Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Dr. Hall for your care, help and support over the last two years. At Mom’s request, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will take place at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com.
