Barbara Ann LaPierre (Schroeder) Upper Rawdon. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother. Barb passed away peacefully at home in Rawdon on November 6th after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Halifax on September 14, 1938, and was a daughter of the late James and Muriel Schroeder (nee Lowe). Simply put, anyone who knew Barb, knew she was a fun-loving, free spirited, and caring person. She had a zest for life beyond description, and her smile could light up the darkest of rooms. Barb graduated from St. Pat’s High School and immediately began a long and prosperous career with the federal government. After retiring she took on an active role with the Rawdon “Firettes” volunteering her time. She was a past member of the National Campers and Hikers Association and spent many years traveling and camping with her husband Ron. Most winter months were spent at her home in Florida. She had an immense love for animals, especially dogs. She and Ron bred and raised Dachshunds for many years. She was an avid swimmer and loved the water. She loved going to bingo, playing cards, reading a good book, and watching classical movies. Barb is survived by her brother Doug Schroeder and wife Marie, son Ronnie and his wife Debbie, step granddaughter Alicia Kingston and husband Matt; daughter Kim (Beck) and husband Glenn, grandson Ryan LaPierre as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A special mention to her cousin and lifelong friend Patsy Hartlen who was a big part of Barb’s life. A special thank-you to the Palliative team of East Hants, the VON’s as well as Dr. Laurie Mallory of the Path Clinic all of whom provided the utmost care and compassion during this difficult time. She was predeceased by her husband Ron and sister Doddi. A celebration of Barb’s life will be held in Saint John Vianney Church, Lower Sackville on Saturday, November 14th at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Nova Scotia. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Bedford (902) 835-4212. On-line condolences may be sent to the family by e-mailing info@trevorjtracey.com
