Obituary of Eleanor VanTassel

Eleanor Van Tassel of Lower Sackville passed away peacefully on December 4, 2015 at home. Born in Glasgow Scotland she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Kathleen Gallagher. Eleanor’s family immigrated to Canada in 1952 when her father was hired as a shipbuilder in Halifax. She attended St Joseph’s School, then went on to graduate from St. Patrick’s High School. Eleanor worked for the Royal Bank, Nova Scotia Light and Power, the Federal Government and the Halifax School Board. Eleanor was a woman of great faith who always submitted her life in God’s Hands. Her gifts of organization and attention to detail were always evident, particularly with special needs children in the education system. Eleanor was involved in the Cursillo Movement, Eucharistic Ministry, and Veritas and loved her S&B Group. She is survived by her loving husband Jack, sons Patrick, Daniel (Sharon) and Robert and a brother Darrell (Jeannie). Grandchildren Luke, Brooke, Emma and Castiel. Nieces Meghan and Kelly, and nephew Daniel. There will be visitation for Eleanor from 2-4pm on Tuesday December 8 and a Funeral Mass on Wednesday December 9, 2015 at 11am both in St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, Lower Sackville. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Family flowers only please, donations can kindly made to the Halifax Palliative Care or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
