If Gordie Lightfoot had known about Walter Brown – he would not have written “In the Early Morning Rain”
The line in the lyrics – You can’t jump a jet plane like you can a freight train – didn’t apply to Walter.
In my 5th year at MUN, I was doing a field placement in Labrador. Student funds were sparse.
Walter let me hitch-hike the 737 jump seat to get home.
Walter was the father of the EPA family. Walter was a kind and patient man. We all learned from him. I am grateful to have had the opportunity, many years ago, to work with Walter.
My sincerest sympathy to all his family.
May he rest in Peace.

Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of working with Walter or meeting his family. I was introduced to Walter by my uncle, Joe Goodyear, who was a good friend and always spoke highly of Walter. After that our paths crossed many times prior to his retirement and I sincerely enjoyed his sense of humour and heart warming stories.
My deepest sympathies for your loss,

Dear Barbara and family
It is with sadness that Suzanne and I heard about Walter’s passing. Walter was one of the finest pilots i ever worked with and Suzanne will never forget the kindness and respect he always treated his entire crew with. Over an aviation career one meets and works with many individuals and only a few really stand out. Walter was one of those and for all the right reasons. We will never forget Captain Walter (crackey) Brown.
To Walter I say, Peace Perfect Peace.

So sorry to hear about this. Im just retiring now and realising who some of the more influential pilots were in my career. As a brand new first officer on the 737 I was pretty nervous and well remember the gentle encouragement I got from Walter. Being on reserve you never knew who you would be paired with and it was always a relief when you found out it would be Walter! Would have liked to have thanked him personally but perhaps the family will accept my gratitude on his behalf.
