Obituary of Raymond Russell Gaudet

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle – Raymond Russell Gaudet, age 95 on April 6, 2016 at Camp Hill Veterans’ Memorial building, QEII, Halifax. Raymond was born in Comeauville, a son of Alphonse and Edith Gaudet. He was one of nine children, being pre-deceased by his parents; brothers, Edward, Joseph, Gerald; sisters, Margaret, Mary, Ruth, Muriel and a stillborn sister. Still surviving is sister, Jean Madigan in British Columbia. He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Doreen Jean Gaudet (Lynch) and his second wife, Marilyn Gaudet (Balcome). At the age of 14, Ray served in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War, and also was a member of the Royal Canadian Artillery. After the war, he attained the rank of Sergeant with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, retiring in 1967. Ray was very active in his community as a Cub Leader, past member of the Lions Club, member of the IOOF, was a Lifetime Member holding several positions as a Comrade of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a long standing member of the Knights of Columbus and a devout Catholic. Ray was an avid gardener and enjoyed tending his gardens during the season; he always had enough flowers and vegetables for family, friends and neighbours. Raymond is survived by his three sons, Joseph Gaudet, Russell and Zhimin Li Gaudet and Derek and Michelle Gaudet; grandchildren, Danny, Angela, Christina, Heidi, Kaya and Tad; seven great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren; as well as several loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 9th from 10 a.m. until funeral time at 1 p.m. with a Legion Service at 12 noon in St. Monica’s Roman Catholic Church in Middleton, Father John MacPherson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Bridgetown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Alphonsus Church. A celebration of life in the Bridgetown Legion will follow the interment. The family would like to thank Annapolis Valley Regional Health Centre and Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Staff, nurses and doctors for the wonderful care Raymond received in his last days.
