Obituary of Annie Marie Aitken

Marie Aitken It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many, Marie (Wee Wee) Aitken, 78, on February 16th, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born in New Victoria and was the daughter of the late Raymond & Nancy (Burke) MacNeil. Marie was a special lady to most who were lucky enough to know her. She made everyone feel welcome and you could always talk to her about anything with ease. She spent many years volunteering with the Bereaved Families of Cape Breton Society. She enjoyed spending time with family & friends. She loved working in her yard during the summer months and anyone who seen her yard knew what beautiful work she did. She enjoyed playing cards and going to the Casino. She was a faithful member of St Joseph’s Church in Mira Ferry & spent numerous years taking great care of the parish cemetery. Marie is lovingly survived by, her long time companion, Art MacIntyre, her children, whom she adored, daughters Cathy Hennessy, Mira, Elaine (Charlie) Dalton, Mira, sons Raymond Duprey, New Waterford, Gordie Aitken (Kathleen), Westmount. Daughter in law Sheila Duprey. Grandchildren, Jamie(Alex) & Aimee Hennessy, Alyssa Dalton, Emma, Molly, Katie, Sam, Maggie & Peggy Duprey, & Adam Enders. Great-grandchildren Kaenen and Nolah Hennessy. Her sisters, Norma MacPherson, Scotchtown, Mary Dewan, Sydney, Winnie (Gerald) Odo, Lingan, her brothers, Eddie (Patsy), Sydney River, Ozzie (Irene), Scotchtown. Someone near and dear to her heart, Bradley, Alexis, & family. Also numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond & Nancy, brother Joe, husband Joe Aitken, son Freddy Duprey, son in law James Hennessy, brothers in law Joe MacPherson & Harvey Dewan, and a brother and sister in infancy. Special thank you to Dr Ritcey, CB Cancer Center, the VON, Palliative Care Staff, & the nurses on 3B. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service for Marie will be held on Saturday, February 23rd,2019 at 10 am in the Parish Church of St Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave, New Waterford, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. With a reception to follow at St Leonard’s Parish Hall, Convent St, New Waterford. Donations may be made to St Joseph’s Cemetery fund in Albert Bridge d
