Obituary of Marian Jean MacDonald

Please share a memory of Marian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marian Jean MacDonald, age 62, of Dartmouth, died on June 8, 2016, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre. She was born in Halifax, the fourth daughter of Alexander Joseph MacDonald and Rita Catherine Reno. Except for a year in the 1970s when she worked at the Banff Springs Hotel, she lived in Dartmouth all of her life. She was a long-term employee of the Workers’ Compensation Board. Her friends and co-workers provided ongoing and appreciated support throughout her illness. She was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Dartmouth, and was active in church work until her illness. Marian touched the lives of so many people who knew her. Words cannot express how much she will be missed by her surviving sisters and brother: Anna MacDonald, Dartmouth; Paula MacDonald (Terry Dalton), Toronto; John MacDonald (Carol Lawrence), Cow Bay; Colleen (George) Lynch and Lorraine (David) Micallef, all of Dartmouth. She was a wonderful aunt to her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly: Lee Dixon (Pamela Simpson), of Hammonds Plains, Erin (Patrick) Ferguson, Alec Lynch (Tamara Smith), Dean MacDonald (Tammy McCormick), Deanna Murray, all of Dartmouth, Robert MacDonald (Lauren Guitard), Eastern Passage, Anthony ‘Tony’ and Catherine ‘Katie’ Micallef, Dartmouth. She is also survived by the next generation of grand-nieces and nephew: Aidan, Claire and Meaghan Ferguson, Eliah and Laila McCormick-MacDonald, Maya and Maleah Murray and Hazel Dixon. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Robert ‘Bob’ (1984) and Donald (2009) MacDonald. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 13, in Saint Peter Church, 10 Maple Street, Dartmouth, at 11:00 am, Father James Richards officiating with a reception to follow in the parish center behind the church. Interment in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville Thank you to every staff member of the QEII 3IMCU (from housekeeping to the medical team) who so enriched our lives. You performed your jobs with assured competence but, more importantly, with a level of caring, consideration and compassion that made both Marian and our family feel at peace with this difficult journey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Scleroderma Society of Nova Scotia, 6155 North Street, P.O. Box 31102, Gladstone, Halifax, NS, B3K 4P0. Knowing Marian’s giving nature, please perform an act of kindness to honour her memory. Funeral arrangements entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation & Burial Specialists, Bedford (902-835-4212).
