Obituary of Rosella Hogan
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Rosella Hogan at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, Sydney on Wednesday, November 14,2018.
Mom was born in Glace Bay on July 27, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Furey) Carroll.
Rosella was a member and an active participant in St. Anne’s Parish. She was an avid volunteer who gave generously of her time to the C.W.L., Seniors and Pensioners Club, Town House and the annual Canadian Daffodil Cancer Campaign.
Mom had many friends and enjoyed her bowling and dart leagues. Mom was dedicated to her weekly club and card night with the girls. She loved to dance with her loving Stevie and they attended many dances.
Rosella was a very devoted employee who always worked as she raised her family. She worked for many years at various businesses downtown such as Prouse and Layton Jewellers. Her last job was Rosemblum’s Ladies Wear. She had a flair for fashion and style.
Rosella is survived by her loving husband, Stephen Hogan of 63 years. Dad was dedicated to Mom’s care and visited her daily.
Mom is also survived by her loving children, JoAnn Hogan, Halifax, Corinne (David)Yurchesyn, Sydney, Stephen (Lisa) Hogan, Lantz, Cary (Stephen) Capstick, Toronto; also left behind to mourn are her loving grandchildren of whom she was always proud, Jillian, Andrew, Danial and Kathleen Yurchesyn, Hilary and Carolyn Hogan, Chelsea, Liam and Emma Capstick as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Mae, Dorothy, Carmella, Edward, Bernie, Michael and Allister.
Cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).
A memorial mass will take place 2:00 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2018 at St. Anne’s Church, Main St., Glace Bay.
There will be a reception held at the church following the service.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff of Irish Cove, Harbourstone for their excellent care and dedication to Mom while there.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rosella’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
