Obituary of Cyril A. Hector

Please share a memory of Cyril to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With deep sadness in my heart I announce the passing of Cyril Hector 88 in Halifax, June 15, 2016 at the QEII. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Katherine (Conard) Hector and Alexander Gay, Halifax. He is survived by his loving soulmate Anna. Also his nephews Arthur (Marg), Gregory (Mimi), nieces Karan, Judy (Bill), Debra, and many more. Beside his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Shirley, half-sisters, Muriel, Yvonne, and half brother, Harold. At his side as he was going through his illness were Justin, Jenn, Tara, Stewart of whom I’ll be forever grateful. He worked as a rigger at the Halifax Dockyard for 31 years, and retired in 1983. He took part in many sports growing up at Joe Howe School, his team won the hockey tournament for Nova Scotia. At 14 he had a license for standard breed racing, trained and drove in many of the tracks. At 16 he played baseball with the Middleton Cardinals, and the Halifax Shipyards of the H&D league. He played in the Senior Softball League with Olands, and went on to win the maritime title three years in a row. In 1942 he met the great Babe Ruth, shook hands with him and obtained his autograph. He also was an avid bowler, played in many tournaments, and teams throughout the years and up until last year bowled in the Mens Senior League. He was in his glory as he had a chance to watch the Pittsburgh Penguins win the Stanley Cup, and had no doubt in his mind that our Sidney Crosby would win the MVP award. He had followed the career of Sidney as he came up through the ranks. I wish to thank the EMT’s of the Halifax Emergency for their compassion and great care. To Dr. Haas who showed very special attention and time with Cyril in the time that he spent on the 8th floor, and also many thanks to the Nurses. Cremation has taken place, graveside family service to follow. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Bedford. 902-835-4212. Online condolences can be made by visiting www.tjtracey.com
