Obituary of Helen Alberta Beaver

Beaver (Morash), Helen Alberta, age 85 from Bedford, N. S. It is with much sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Helen Alberta Beaver, on July 2, 2016 at the Halifax Infirmary 3IMCU. Born in Bedford January 10, 1931, Helen was the daughter of the late Bertha (Nowe) Morash and was raised by her loving grand parents the late James E. and Atarah (Fredericks) Morash. Helen was a devoted Anglican and was a lifetime member of All Saints Church in Bedford participating in their choir (singing soprano) until the later years. Helen was deeply committed to her community. She sat on the Bedford Planning and Advisory Committee for several years fighting to preserve the town’s identity in a fair and equitable manner so as to not diminish its charm and to uphold the interests of its constituents. Helen was an avid gardener and the longest standing member (56 years) of the Halifax African Violet Society where she held every position possible over the years including president of both the National and Halifax Societies at the same time. Her love for African violets held no bounds. Helen grew as many as 500 plants at one time and could tell you all you needed to know about each plant and how to successfully grow them. The fruits of her labour provided a sizeable number of ribbons for achievement over the years at the club’s annual show with the “Best in Show” ribbon being her most coveted and rightly earned on numerous occasions. Helen was the assistant manager at the Maritime Hotel in Bedford and worked seven days a week until her retirement. Her other achievements included great baker, artist, singer (past member of the Bedford Senior Choir), guitar player, seamstress, and world class sock knitter. One wonders where she found the time to do everything, but knowing Helen her high energy kept her going. Helen had a kind and loving heart and felt deep affection for people. She was outgoing and loving to all of her extended family. Helen held the hearts of many who called her Mom, Grammy Beaver, and Nanny Helen. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 42 years James Kenneth (Ken), son Barry, sister Hilda, and her dearest friend Winnie Williams. She is survived by her loving daughter-in-law Donna (Yeadon) and “adopted son” David (Patricia) Squarebriggs; grandchildren Margot (Randy) Sjoquist, Brook (Matthew) Beaman; great grandchildren Gloria, Violet, Olivia, Alice, Grace, and Ella; sisters Irene, Jean, Maude (Donnie), Florence (Gordie); brothers, Edward (Pat), Willard (Janet); many nieces and nephews, special friends (we refer to as her extended family) who were near and dear to her heart – the Durand, Banks, and Williams Families, as well as many more special friends. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 6 at 2:30PM in All Saints Bedford. A reception to follow the service in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Saints Bedford Church Cemetery Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society.
