Obituary of Allan Ellsworth Bagnall

Allan Ellsworth Bagnall, age 71, of Halifax, NS passed away peacefully July 12, 2016 at Parkstone Enhanced Care Facility surrounded by his loving children and wife. Born in New Glasgow, NS, he was the son of the late William Ellsworth Bagnall and Marion Ruth Simpson. He retired in 2000 as Regional Director of Supply and Services, Public Works and Government Services Canada after a 22 year career in the federal government in PEI and NS. He had previously worked in economic development, lending and banking, including 9 years with the PEI government and 8 years with CIBC in all four Atlantic Provinces. He was very proud on having returned to university as a mature student and his graduation in 1985 with a BBA from UPEI. He won many national university awards and scholarships as a student at University of Toronto and UPEI. He was an active volunteer in the community. He served in several roles at Port Wallis United Church, Dartmouth, NS and was honoured to have led the work on a major expansion at the church. In PEI he was also active in Park Royal United Church, the United Way, United Service Officers Club and the Victoria Lodge. In retirement he spent many hours at the Bedford Leisure Club Volunteer Workshop doing furniture refinishing. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Donna Clark; his daughter Debbie (Alan) MacLeod, Stratford PEI, Mike (Bonnie) Bagnall, Hammonds Plains; Step-children Andrew Warren, Montreal, Daniel (Sarah) Milford-Warren, Toronto and Emily Warren, Paris; Sister Sheila (Rod) Ives, Comox, BC; cousins Diane Muttart, Halifax; and Keith (Heather) Bagnall, Fredericton, NB; sister-in- law Marie Bagnall and his first wife Sandra (Fred) Morse, Charlottetown, PEI; and grandchildren Ashley, Holly and AJ MacLeod, Dylan and Laura Bagnall, and Felix and Eleanor Milford-Warren. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Ralph Bagnall. During his retirement, Allan spent many happy hours playing golf and enjoyed travel and RVing. He particularly enjoyed his winter RV adventures to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, and other RV trips including a special one to Alaska. His travel to Bagnall, England, the homeplace of his family and New Zealand to connect with other Bagnall relatives were highlights of these years. Allan will always be remembered for his gregarious nature, big heart and love for his family. He courageously lived his life to the fullest, even after his diagnosis with dementia. His final months were spent at Parkstone Enhanced Care where he was loved and cared for by their amazing staff, in particular the staff on Point Pleasant Way. Special thanks to them and to Dr. WR Lee, Dr. Laurie Mallery, Dr. Sameh Hassan, Dr. Paul Joseph and Dr. Sophie Couture for their care. Thanks to family and friends for their support. A memorial service will be held in Port Wallis United Church, 263 Waverley Road Dartmouth, on Saturday, July 16 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Ivan Gregan officiating, followed by a reception. Family and friends are welcome to attend the interment on Sunday, July 17 at 2:30 pm in the Floral Hills Memorial Garden Cemetery, in Hunter River, PEI, followed by a reception in Central Queens United Church, Hunter River, PEI.
