Obituary of David Tait
Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Tait, aged 77, of Bedford died on August 4, 2016 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Born in Portknockie, Scotland David was the eldest of Bill and Helena’s five sons, James, George, Kenneth and John. At 15 he began a career as a fisherman that would take him around the world as a Skipper, consultant and business owner. An innovator with a natural curiosity David was an instrumental figure in the Canadian fishing industry since the 1970s who built bridges between scientific, government, business and fishing communities across Canada and beyond. He eventually settled in the Halifax area in the early 1980s with his family and continued to work promoting environmental fishing practices in particular, until he passed away.
Funny and wry he loved travel, books, ideas, the odd single malt and good naturedly deflating the self-important. Most of all he loved Isobel, his wife and partner for 56 years. He’ll be deeply missed by his children Avril, David, Will and Cathleen as well their spouses and a long list of grand and great-grandchildren. He left us a lot, but most of all the ability to work hard and laugh at both adversity and ourselves. Fair weather on the last trip David.
