DAWS, Catherine Sylvia — Passed away peacefully on September 6, 2016 in her 73rd year at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia after a struggle with cancer. Beloved mother of Jennifer McCann and sister of Lee Daws, she will be fondly remembered by her aunt, Jo Manary, her nieces and nephews, cousins Cheryl, Marnie, Karen, Liz and their families, as well as her extended family overseas. Born in London, England during the Second World War to then RCAF sergeant Lee Daws and British civil servant Helen Doonin, Cathi soon came to Canada where she was raised in Trenton and Ottawa, Ontario. An accomplished cook and long-time regular of the Halifax Farmer’s Market, Cathi will be warmly remembered by her many friends. Although employed primarily as a secretary early in her career, at heart Cathi was an artist who delighted in painting, weaving, rug hooking, and playing both guitar and piano. Before finally settling on the East Coast to raise her family, Catherine led a nomadic existence working and studying on the West Coast (Simon Frasier University), Banff, Toronto (Ontario College of Art and Design), Montreal (Concordia), and Halifax (Nova Scotia College of Art and Design). Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Cathi’s life will be held at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, September 13. Please contact 902-404-7803 for location. Flowers gratefully declined. In tribute to her love of nature and her especial fondness of the Piping Plover, donations in her memory may be made to Bird Studies Canada (https://www.canadahelps.org/dn/24791).
