Obituary of Gary Edward Deal

Gary Edward Deal, 71 years old, of Lower Sackville, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016 at home. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia he was a son of the late Fritz and Mary Deal. Gary was employed by Nova Scotia Light and Power and later, Nova Scotia Power, as a Lineman and then moved into the District Control Office for 32 years. He was fortunate enough to retire at the young age of 52, upon which he lived his life one day at a time tinkering in the garage and committing himself to helping his family and large community of friends. Survived by his wife Nora (Comeau) Deal of 48 years; 3 sons, Joseph (Sonya) Deal, Thomas (Christine Elliott) Deal, and Jeffery (Gina) Deal; brother Stephen (Joanne) Deal; sister Carol (Joe) MacDonald; grandchildren, Samuel Deal, Gemma Deal, Evan Deal; aunt, Sister Virginia Deal (S.C.); and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by infant son William Deal; sister Joan (Anderson); and his parents Fritz and Mary Deal. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 from 10:00 – 11:00 am with a funeral mass at 11:00 am both in St. John Vianney Church, 4 Beaver Bank Road, Lower Sackville, reception to follow. Interment in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society. Gary’s family would like to thank the Dr.’s, nurses, and other workers at the Cancer Clinic at the QEII Hospital and especially the Palliative Care Team with all their assistance to allow Gary to spend his final weeks at home. A special thank you to Gary’s friends and neighbours who kept his final months full of laughs and stories, and our deep appreciation for gifts of food and messages of support.
