Kathleen “Kay” Frances (McIntyre) Gagnon It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt Kay Gagnon on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Kay was born and raised in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John James and Mary (Ryan) McIntyre. Kay was employed with the Bank of Montreal in Ottawa as a loans manager for many years until her retirement. Kay was in the Sister of St. Martha’s for 5 years, and was a member of the MacDougall Girls Pipe Band. She took her bagpipes away with her when she was in the convent and sometimes played for the Bishop. She enjoyed playing the organ, going for walks and visiting her family. She loved Cape Breton and would travel home every year while on vacation. Kay is survived by her daughter, Vickie (Dwayne) Verdon, Ottawa; three grandchildren, Michael, Danielle and Joey; her sisters, Mary (Ron) Kennedy, Ottawa, Louise (Kevin) Caines, Glace Bay (with whom she resided with); brothers, Jim (Marg)McIntyre, Glace Bay, Pat (Carolyn) McIntyre, Smith Falls, Ontario and Michael Joseph (Karen)McIntyre, Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatewan; special nephews, Kevin Jr. and Ryan Caines, Jim and Keith McIntyre, Philip McIntyre; nieces, Tish Maquadt and Julie Cybanski and Alysha McIntyre. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Michael Gagnon; brother, Thomas McIntyre; sister-in-law, Ann (Sailor) McIntyre and nephew, Derrick McIntyre. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, March 4, 2019 at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199) with Father Norman MacPhee presiding. A reception will follow in the reception area. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society or a charity of choice.
