Please share a memory of Prudence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gillis, Prudence May – 86, of Halifax (formerly of Timberlea) passed away at the Dartmouth General Hospital on Saturday October 29, 2016, with her loving family by her side. Prue was born in River John, N.S. and was the daughter of the late Frank and Euphemia (Heighton) Jollimore. With her instant smile, sense of humour and nurturing way, she was a friend to all who had the privilege of meeting her. She loved to cook for family and friends and if you visited her she would have a meal and apple pie ready before you left. She also loved to travel, knit, sew, paint, play bingo and watch her favorite shows. Mom felt her most important job was to raise her eight children but as a young woman she worked at MacLean’s Bakery in Truro and on the Magdalen Islands in a lobster factory. As her family got older she worked for the Province of N.S. in Halifax. She is survived by the love of her life, Alexander Gillis as well as her children, Gerald (Bertha), Susan (David), Melody (John), Debra (Kevin), Wayne (Linda) and Rosemarie (Danny), 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother Floyd (Bible Hill) and sisters, Annie (River John) and Eileen (Tatamagouche) and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sons, Douglas and John, her grandchildren Vincent and Michelle as well as siblings, Colin, Charles and Violet. Our mother was the center of our family and will be greatly missed since she was the glue that held us together. Always organizing special occasions, dinners, our Christmas gift exchanges and attending every activity for us all (sometimes twice). She made sure we all stayed in touch since family was so important to her and she never said goodbye to us without saying she loved us. We were so blessed to have her in our lives. Please join us for a celebration of her life on Saturday November 5, 2016, at 56 Jacob Lane (Unit 104), Halifax (off Larry Uteck Boulevard) from 2-4 pm with family flowers only. Cremation has taken place with interment at a later date. Donations in her memory can be made to the Canadian Red Cross or Lions Club, Tantallon. Our mother was a kind, thoughtful and generous woman who was charitable to all she met and would be best remembered by us all doing something kind for someone else in her memory. You did so many things for us, Your heart was so kind and true, And when we needed someone, We could always count on you. The special years will not return, When we were all together, But with love in our hearts, You will walk with us forever.
