Ronald “Gary” Degaust Glace Bay With broken hearts, we the children of Gary announce that in the early hours of November 18, 2018 in his 68th year, with family by his side, our beautiful Dad slipped peacefully away to be with our Mom. Gary was the oldest child of Ronald and Marie (Hall) Degaust of Marconi Towers. In his younger years, dad worked for Electrolux, and a number of years for Carol’s Drug store. He attended St FX University and Wayne State University achieving his master’s in psychology. He worked many years as a Millwright travelling from place to place before retiring due to illness in 1996. In the years before his Illness, Gary was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a beautiful singer and guitar player, he gave lessons to many in the community. He thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings (of which there were a lot) with music, song and laughter. Dad was a wonderful man, He was strong, kind, and always saw the good in things, he lived many years with Illness, but you never heard him complain. He was a jokester, and dry humored. Nothing mattered more to Dad than his family. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, son, sibling and friend. Left to grieve the loss of our Dad are his adoring children, Andre (Brittany) and Stefanie (Stephen) and his three wonderful grandsons whom he loved and deeply cherished, Matthew, Reece and Jesse. He will also be remembered with love by his four brothers, Daryl Degaust, Brian (Dyan), Andre (Brenda), Gary (Elsie) Dillon, and three sisters, Ronda (Bob Clarke), Denise (Derek) Walker and Ruth (Garry) Smith; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins all of whom he loved. Dad was predeceased by his wife and soulmate of 45 years, Gail with whom he shared a beautiful life; his parents, Marie and Ronnie; as well as his mother and father-in-law, Evelyn and John Dillon. A service will be held to celebrate the life of Gary on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 10 a.m. with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, (902-849-4199) with a reception to follow. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com.
