Donald William Hoopey of Lower Sackville, NS passed away peacefully January 15, 2017.
Born in Fortune, Newfoundland he was a son of Jacob and Amelia (Ayres) Hoopey.
A graduate of Dalhousie University, Don was a civil engineer for the N.S. Department of Transportation for 30 years. Before that he worked with fellow family members at Donnell Engineering. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he was an excellent golfer and a respected member of Oakfield Golf & Country Club. He also enjoyed curling and had been an active member of the Lakeshore Curling Club. At university, he enjoyed both soccer and rugby. He loved to cook, took satisfaction in careful statistical analysis, and dabbled in chess.
He will be deeply missed by his friends and family, especially his favourite dog, known to most as Tedi MacNeil.
Survived by his wife Mary (MacNeil) of 29 years; sons Andy, of Dartmouth, Sean (Bethan), of Ottawa, Todd, of Sackville; step-son Wes Furlotte, of Montreal; brother Claude (Bev) of Halifax; grandchildren Sam and Robyn Hoopey. Predeceased by son Jacob ‘Jake’ Victor.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, January 20th, 2017 at 2:00 pm in Saint Elizabeth Seton Parish, 125 Metropolitan Ave, Lower Sackville, with Fr. Patrick Cosgrove officiating followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Beacon House.
