Obituary of Shirley Lillian Stevenson

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our mother, Shirley Lillian (Mercer) Stevenson of Glace Bay passed away January 22, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Glace Bay on March 8, 1935 she was a daughter of Robert and Lillian (Rideout) Mercer. Mom was a kind, quiet, private lady who devoted her life to her husband, children and home. In early years Shirley worked at Household Finance. Her four grandsons were her pride and joy. She looked forward to her daily phone calls from her good friends Joan, Marge and Toots. She will be sadly missed by her dog Oreo. Survived by two daughters, Heather (Darryl) MacDonald of Antigonish, and their sons, Alex (Jenn) of Faust, Alberta and Ian (Jessica) of Airdrie, Alberta; and Janice (Donnie) Donovan, of Glace Bay and their sons, Robbie (Erica), of Halifax and Patrick of Glace Bay. Predeceased by husband, Oliver in 2003; brother, Ralph; and sister, Evelyn. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 26 at 11:00 am in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists Memorial Chapel, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay (902) 849-4199, with CSN Fred Courtney officiating. Interment at later date Forest Haven cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to The Salvation Army, Glace Bay. Special thanks to the amazing staff at ICU at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for taking such wonderful care of our mother.
