Katherine MacKinnon – 80
It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announce the peaceful passing of their sister and aunt, Katherine MacKinnon affectionately called “Caddy”. Katherine passed away at Seaview Manor on Friday February 17, 2017, with her family by her side during her journey to her passing.
She was the daughter of the late Alex and Mary Jane MacKinnon and Step-Father John Farrell. She resided on Main St., Glace Bay prior to entering Seaview Manor. She was an avid church goer and was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish. Katherine enjoyed her daily walks, conversing with the neighbors and tending to household chores. She loved family gatherings and especially so at Christmas time, one of her favorite things to do this time of year was to going Christmas shopping with her sister Val. She treasured getting visits from her nieces and nephews and always had special treats ready for their arrival.
She is survived by sisters Theresa Tittley, Alexis MacDonald, Val Gouthro (Gerard). Brothers Daniel (Hannah) Farrell. Fabian Farrell, Ken (Daisy) Farrell and Dan (Heather) Farrell. Special nieces and nephew, Noelle (Olivier), Gerard (Joanne) and Nancy (Russell) as well as numerous nieces and nephews throughout the country.
She was predeceased by sisters Sr. Mary Josita, Fancis MacDonald, Jessie Bennett , Margaret Somerton, Sr. Marie Goretti and brother Alex Farrell.
Special thanks to the staff at Seaview Manor for the care and compassion given to Katherine over the last nine years and especially during her last few days. Your kindness and consideration to both Katherine and her family will always be remembered. Special thank you and appreciation as well to her niece Noelle, who cared for her with dedication and compassion to ensure her end of life journey was peaceful.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St, Glace Bay, 902-849-4199.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 22 from 1:30-2:30 pm with the service beginning at 2:30pm at the T.J. Tracey Memorial Chapel. A reception will follow. Interment will be held at a later date at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
