Obituary of John F. Reid

John Francis Reid Glace Bay It is with great sadness we, the family, announce the passing of John Reid on March 5, 2019 at home with his loving wife at the age of 82. Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late Frances and Mary Reid. John worked in many different mines over the years as an electrician, not retiring until well in to his seventies. He never forgot any of the people he met during his career. He would always share a story of whoever he happened to sit next to on his many trips back and forth to work because he was sure to either know them or someone in their family. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending many hours teaching his children and grandchildren how to fish in his favourite spots, Grand River and Lake Ainslie, as long as they didn’t catch a bigger fish than he did. John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Winnie; his children, Anne Frances (John), Raymond (Mary), Paulette (Yoshiko), Emerson, Corrine (Topper)Nightengale, Mark (Michelle), grandchildren Glen, Orrin, Alynese, Reid, Shou, Raymond, Paul, Danielle; brothers, Vernon (Linda) and Michael (Debbie), sister-in- law, Barbara MacNamara and friend Glen Sparrow. He was predeceased by his brother Tommy; sisters, Vangie O’Neill, and Leona Milley and brother-in-law Francie MacNamara. The family would like to thank Dr. Gordon Spencer, Jeannie Phillips, Dr. Kevin MacNeil , the nurses at the Glace Bay Hospital and the VON who provided wonderful care especially over the last month. Cremation has taken place. As per John’s wishes there will be no visitation or service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of T.J.
