Obituary of Robin Norman Calder

Please share a memory of Robin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with sadness and yet a certain kind of peace that we announce the continued journey of husband and father, Robin Norman Calder on April 5th, 2017. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, to Barbara (Brydone) and Norman Calder, Robin immigrated to Canada in 1967 to attend The University of King’s College and on to Dalhousie University Law School. A love of history and people led Robin on an interesting journey as a Tour Director for Atlantic Tours, showing world travellers his beloved Atlantic Canada. His Celtic roots aligned his spirit with Newfoundland where he especially enjoyed his summer tours. One would have to say that Robin’s interests were diverse. He was passionate about music, especially opera, was a fanatic about cooking, and an avid basketball and golf fan. His dry wit and knowledge made conversation with Robin a joy. On the other hand, he enjoyed time with a chain saw and hammer, maintaining the lake retreat he and Kathryn so loved. Together Robin and Kathryn shared these interests supported by their strong spiritual bond. Robin was a proud father to three children and actively engaged in the lives of 8 beautiful and loving grandchildren. He was an avid supporter and participant of both the St. James Men’s Group and St. James Christian Meditation. His strong faith provided much comfort throughout his life, allowing him to continue his present journey. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn Edgett, mother, Barbara Calder, three children, Jane (Andrew) Duffus, Caroline (Evangelos) Panopalis, and John (Heidi) Calder; grandchildren, Ryan and Veronica Duffus, Tia, Ellie and Maggie Panopalis and Elijah and Benjamin Calder; step children, Shea Steele, Christopher (C.P.) Steele, and Caitlan Anthony; step grandson Christopher Steele; aunt Susan Brydone; brothers, Hamish (Johanna) Calder and George (Jane) Calder. Visitation will be Monday, April 10th from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at St. James Anglican Church, 2668 Joseph Howe Dr. Halifax. The funeral service, also at St. James, will be on Tuesday April 11th at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, St. James Anglican Church Outreach Fund will gratefully receive donations in Robin’s memory to stjamesanglican.chebucto.org. Thank you to Robin’s medical team for their support and to TJ Tracey Creation and Burial Specialists.
