Julia and I were born a month apart and grew up about 3 blocks from each other in Crescent Wood in Winnipeg, so we went to Kindergarten, through all of elementary school, until Grade 12 together, sometimes, but not always in the same classes, and in the same schools for all those years.
I remember a beautiful, smiling, happy, freckled red headed girl from more than 40 years ago, whom every boy in the grade 4 Sir John Franklin school class had a crush on.
My condolences. I did not know her in adult life, but from her life’s arc described, and the other comments it seems she will very much missed.

Sad to see Julia go. Old soul, old soul…. Thanks for putting together the Celebration of Life – it was a moving testament to someone who gave a lot to this troubled world. May she find rest and renewal in the arms of the angels she loved.

I am so sorry to hear the news of Julia’s passing. I was so honoured to have worked with Julia and to learn from her calm and respectful manner. She was so kind-hearted, genuinely loved students and their families, and was so supportive of children, families and schools. She was very inspiring. I hope happy memories will bring comfort in time to those left behind.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to Julia’s Family & Friends. I was so sad to learn of Julia’s illness and passing. Julia was so warm and welcoming to me when I worked with her out of the Rockingham Student Services Office. She was so vibrant, so full of life and she always had a hug and kind word for me. She had such a lovely personality and her laughter could fill the room. It was always clear how much Julia loved and was dedicated to her Family, her friends and her profession. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten….

Julia and I were best friends in elementary Winnipeg years. We constant buds in class, in downtown shopping, overnights, families trips and at cottages Grade 8 brought a painful separation when my family moved to Halifax. Many years later, as young mothers our friendship had a wonderful second chance when Julia also moved east. I shall miss her creative heart and gaity and chaleur and the many years I assumed would be hers to share. Julia was a jewel. My deep condolences to her siblings, Emily and Zak and other family members.

My deepest sympathy to all of Julia’s near and dear. I was shocked to read of her passing as I remember how excited she was to be retiring from many years of dedication to the children and parents she helped at school. I too was blessed in knowing her for many years as a professional and sometimes in fun at an exercise or yoga class. So sad and so young.
Sincerely
Norma Hennebury

Sadness and regret upon hearing of Julia’s passing… Friends over the years, we spent many hours drumming together in a shared drumming circle. She generously attended one such event on the occasion of my daughter’s death. For this I will always feel grateful as well as just for the simple pleasure of her acquaintance. I so admired the creative enthusiasm with which she entered the adventure of retirement: biking, swimming, painting, horses and her two little dogs. It was cut too short. We will miss her.
