Obituary of Ann Sharon McIntyre

Ann Sharon McIntyre, 69, of Halifax, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on April 15, 2017, after a long and complicated illness; she never complained. She was born in Glace Bay, grew up on Bentinck St., Sydney, and was the sixth child of the late Margaret (Keylor) and William Ignatius MacIntyre. Ann was educated at Holy Angels High and Xavier College, where she was a cheerleader, and St. Francis Xavier University where she obtained her teaching degree. She was a kind, creative and talented elementary school teacher, loved by her students and co-workers. Ann was a devout Catholic and had tremendous faith, setting an example for all of us. She taught Catechism for many years at St. Thomas More parish, where she was involved in many groups including RCIA and Alpha until her health deteriorated. In later life she was a faithful member of St. Agnes Parish and belonged to the Children of Mary and Altar Society. In her younger years Ann was known for her great hair and keen fashion sense, referred to by her mother as, “Glamour Girl.” She loved swimming, crosswords, Scrabble, movies, especially Turner Classics from the 30s, visitors and couch surfers. She had a great sense of humour. Everyone loved her, even cats and dogs; like all of us they were overwhelmed with her gentle kindness. Ann had a wonderful life and will be remembered most for her eagerness to dance, love of conversation, and devotion to family and friends. Ann is survived by her beloved children, Margaret, Christiana, Michael (Clover), and Madeline King; her grandson Augustine, the light of her life; her siblings, Ave (Peter) Hoeper, Bill (Andrea) MacIntyre, Mary Lou (Rodger) Johnson, Roy (Bev) MacIntyre, Duncan (Noel) MacIntyre, Margaret (John) Theakston, Rachel (Ron) Houlihan, sister-in-law Linda (Sheldon) Gillis; her former husband Bernie King; her dear friends Linda Keylor, Regina and Colleen Gillis, Deb MacPherson, and neighbour Heather MacPherson; and many nieces and nephews, including her two special Godchildren Matthew Johnson and Jennifer Komar (Theakston). Other than her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Catherine Smith and Joseph MacIntyre, sister-in-law Lillian MacIntyre, and brother-in-law Waldo Smith. Visitation will be held April 19, 6-8 pm, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 6903 Mumford Rd. Funeral mass will be held April 20, 10 am also at St. Agnes. Family flowers only please. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Special thanks to the terrific staff of the Medical Day Unit for their care over the years, and to the many doctors and nurses of the QEII. In the hospital, a nun gave her a message from God: “Ann Sharon you are a great prayer. I love you just the way you are. And God said ‘Here comes Ann I will give her peace.'”
