Barbara Ann Fiolek
52, Sydney
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, daughter of Yvonne (Mac Donald) and the late William (Bill) Fiolek.
Barb is survived by her mother, her brother Barrie and wife Janine, Dominion, her sister Carrie and husband Darryl Holder, Glace Bay. One nephew Christopher, nieces Natasha, Candace and Stephanie and grandnephew Isaac. She was predeceased by her father, her niece Marcia Elizabeth and her grandnephew Abel Boutilier.
Barb graduated from Glace Bay High School and had a variety of work experiences. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She left everlasting impressions on the children in her care over many years. Her passion was her crafty crocheting. She was an expert in designing her own patterns. She made many items for The Best of Cape Breton shop and at last count she had made over 150 C.B. and N.S. tartan afghans which are owned by folks from B.C. to NFLD. Barb was a renowned crocheting teacher at the Time-Out Club at First United Church Hall for many years. She also belonged to Club 55’s Time-Out and enjoyed the Luncheons at the library in Sydney. She was an integral part of their annual Knit-A-Thons. Barb loved doing whatever she could to help others. She spent over 30 years as a member of Al-Anon at the Local and Provincial levels. She served in all aspects of the program, including Executive. She will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched. Barb took her illnesses in stride and never complained or let them interfere with her life. She was thankful for the care she received from the staff at the CBRHC in Sydney. We feel blessed to have been a part of her life and we will hold her dearly in our hearts.
A service will be held in celebration of Barb’s life at T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists Memorial Chapel 370 Reserve St, Glace Bay 902-849-4199 on Tuesday, April 25th at 3pm with Rev. Mary Godden Officiating. A time of fellowship will follow in the funeral home reception Centre.
