Obituary of Walter James Gregory Pyke

Pyke, Walter James Gregory – 76, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2017 in the Dartmouth General Hospital.
Born in Halifax in 1941, he was a son of the late John and Irene (Kenefick) Pyke.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Windland-Pyke; daughter, Darlene; son, Wally; six grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Alan and Clyde; sisters, Lucretia, Beverly; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Douglas, George, Donald; sisters, Shirley, Diane, Sharon; and his best friend (dog) Sandy.
He was retired from a lengthy career as a pipe fitter for the Halifax Dockyard and drove for Casino Taxi for many years. He loved spending time with his family; road trips and faithfully played his lotto tickets. He loved older classic country music and would sing and strum a guitar for anyone who would listen. He shared his sense of humour with everyone he encountered.
He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and neighbours at his residence. Thank you for all the visits, cards and kind words during his illness. Special thanks to the Palliative Care nurses who took tender care of him.
Visitation will take place Thursday, May 18 from 7-9pm in St. John Anglican Church, 2187 Larry Uteck Blvd, Bedford. Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Mother Teresa of Kolkata, 6032 Normandy Dr., Halifax on Friday May 19, 2017 at 11:00 am. burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville for immediate family.
