WHITE, George (Fred) It is with great sadness and wounded hearts that we announce the death of Fred White 81, on May 18, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Malcolm and Catherine White. Fred worked in the coal mines for several years and at a CCM Factory in Ontario. He then returned home and spent about 20 years working in the Glace Bay Miners Forum. Fred was an excellent athlete and excelled as a Great Softball Pitcher, a good hockey player, an excellent dancer and at one time the best skater on the Island. He also had one of the best gardens in Glace Bay and he gave most of it away free of charge. He loved books, was deeply spiritual and he memorized many passages of Scripture. He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Kathy and Charlene; brother, Roy; sisters, Effie (Bruce), Susie (Jack), Lena and Joyce, and Alisha and Carol Anne, Glace Bay. Besides his parents Fred was predeceased by his brothers, Malcie and Aubrey and a sister, Annie. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, 902-849-4199. A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held on Monday, May 22, 2017, 11 a.m. at T.J. Tracey Funeral Home Chapel, a private Family burial will be held at a later date. A special thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at the Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, to Skip and Ann Nash for driving Fred to his appointments, Joyce and Susie for the lovely meals and visits, and for all the tender, loving care shown to Fred by Effie and Bruce Hudson. To Bruce Hudson Jr. and wife Kelly, thank you. Fred will be remembered for his compassion and great sense of humor. Fred’s favourite quote was, “It is not the size of the dog in a fight that counts, but the size of the fight in the dog.”
