Obituary of Barbara Joyce Smith

Barbara Joyce Smith (Edwards) of Halifax passed away late Thursday afternoon, June 1, 2017 at the QEII Hospital, Halifax. She was the daughter of the late Gladys (Forrest) and Adolf Ceril Edwards, both of Halifax. Barbara is survived by her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (Gordon) Smith of Sackville; five grandchildren, Lawson Smith of Sackville, Kyle (Elyse) Smith of Halifax, Hallie (Chris) Whidden of Seattle, Washington, Bradley (Rachel) Smith of Halifax, Colin (Deanna) Smith of Kentville; five great- grandchildren, Emily, Leia, Haaken, Saxon, and Magnus; brothers, Gordon (Jean) Edwards of Ont., Kenneth Edwards of Voglers Cove, N.S., Earl Edwards of Halifax, Percy Edwards of Windsor, N.S.; and sister-in-law Elenor Pitt of Halifax. Barbara was predeceased by her husband of more than fifty years Reuel I. Smith; her sons, Roderick M. Smith and Gordon R. Smith who were taken too soon. She grew up and lived all her life in Halifax. She was a loving and giving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a very active member of first St. Mark’s Anglican Church and then of St. Margaret of Scotland. Most everyone who knew her spoke her name with a smile. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 8 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm in St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church, 3751 Robie St, Halifax. Funeral service will be held Friday, June 9 at 11 am also in St. Margaret of Scotland. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T. J. Tracey Cremation & Burial Specialists, Bedford (902) 835-4212.
