It is with heavy hearts that the family of Stephen John Kosick, aged 89, regretfully announce his passing on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born August 27, 1927, he was the son of Antonina (Drabek) and John Kosick of Glace Bay.
Dad was, first and foremost, a family man who was devoted to his wife, Lois, and very proud of his children and grandchildren. He lived a full and adventurous life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, prospecting, motorcycling and scuba diving on Cape Breton’s eastern coast. He was an avid gardener, writer and musician. Many an evening was spent with Dad singing and playing his guitar and accordion in the company of family and friends. He enjoyed skating, travelling and summers at the bungalow in Grand Mira North, where many precious memories were made. For 36 years, he was employed with CBDC (Devco) where he retired from number 26 colliery as an electrician.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lois (Matheson) Kosick, along with his five children, fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; daughter, Stephanie (Charles) Jolley, Glace Bay, and children, Aaron, Stephen (Denise) and Andrew; son, Glenn (Jan), Toronto, and children, Tyler (Heather), Allison, Graham and Darren; daughter, Pamela (Jim) Violande, Glace Bay, and children, Jamie (Katelyn), Carter, Gillian and Kelsey (Aaron); son, Carter (Lynn), Porters Lake, and children, Warren and Eric; daughter, Natalie (John), Grand Mira South, and children, Pamela Lynne and Brennan (Katie), and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ben, Lukas and Tegan Jolley.
Steve is also survived by sisters, Olga (Andy) Saytar, Ontario, Helen MacLean, Glace Bay, and brother, Fred (Nancy), Glace Bay; sisters-in-law, Barbara Kosick and Rose Kosick, Glace Bay, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Steve was predeceased by grand daughter, Ellen Marie Kosick (in infancy); sisters, Francie, Violet and Mary, and brothers, Cecil and Alec.
