My first introduction to Billy was with Ann, when I was privileged enough to get a ride to the Antigonish Highland Games in the back seat of his convertible, around 1970. He was a perfect gentleman and made us kids feel pretty special. My deepest condolences, love and prayers to you Ann, and your family.

A few years ago I was fortunate enough to take a couple weeks vacation and stay with Ann and Billy. It was spring, Ann was working at the school but the Bayplex was in transition so Billy was home. Billy and I spent the entire two weeks together. He set-up each day’s agenda and took me around Glace Bay, Sydney and areas. We talked a lot and laughed even more. I will always remember that Billy was very proud of his family. Your accomplishments meant a lot to him and his pride was very obvious. He enjoyed the little things in life. Whether it was meeting someone on the street, hearing a good song on the radio or Swiffering the kitchen floor he always seemed to be having a good time. He never dwelled on the negative and recognized people for trying to do better for the community. He was also great at making a bad day into a good one. Like the time we went golfing in Winnipeg with Roddy and my brother Rob. Rob was having the worst game of his life but never lost his composure. About the 17th hole Rob sliced his third shot in a row into the woods. Billy looked at us and said with conviction “boy Rob’s got a lot of patience”. Suddenly Rob wound up and threw his club about 200 yards straight down the fairway. Billy yelled out “look at the distance you got on that club!” and then handed Rob another club to throw! We were laughing that hard we couldn’t finish the hole. We threw away the score card and went for a beer. Billy made it a day we will always remember. Love Jamie McMullin – Winnipeg, Manitoba.
