Obituary of Mary Kelly
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our wife, mother and grandmother, Mary C. (McCormick) Kelly, on August 19, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Sydney, NS at the age of 70 due to complications from cancer.
Mary was born in Glace Bay and was the youngest daughter of the late Neil and Sadie McCormick. She is survived by her best friend and husband, Willie, who she referred to as “My Will,” their children Allanna (David) Beaton, Williamsville NY, Paul (Adele) Kelly, Dartmouth NS, Nichole (Dave) MacArthur, Cole Harbour NS, and her special nephew and niece, Luke (Jen) MacAulay, Ottawa ON, and Brianna MacAulay, Halifax NS.
Her true joy in life came from spending time with her “three princesses,” her granddaughters, Victoria and Elizabeth Beaton, and Lyla MacArthur. Grammie will forever love you girls.
Mary is survived by her sisters, Corrine Vaninetti, Bernice McCormick, Marjorie McCormick, and her in-laws, Ruby McCormick, Ned Kelly, Din Kelly, Jude (Elaine) Kelly, Dot Kelly, John (Dorothy) Kelly, Marie Kelly, Cleo (Wincie) Egan, Ann (Gordie) Boudreau, and her many nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Buddy, Sonny, Tommy and Harvey, her BFF and sister, Imelda, and her in-laws, Rose McCormick, Joe Vaninetti, Jerome Kelly, Bernie Kelly, Mary and Will MacAulay, Marie Kelly, Anna Kelly, Bunny and Pearl MacDonald and Arlene Kelly.
Mary cherished the friends she made and the stories she shared from the early years when she worked at Mendelson’s Variety Mart & Modern Coop. In the years following, she focused on raising her children with her loving husband. Mary was a warm, loving person who connected on a personal level with anyone and everyone she met. She enjoyed gardening, travelling and spending time with her family and friends.
