Cassell, William R. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Cassell at the New Waterford Hospital on August 21, 2017, surrounded by loving family after along and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Great Harbour Deep, NL, on May 2, 1954, he was the son of the late David and Minnie Cassell. Bill leaves behind his partner, Nancy MacDonald of Glace Bay, NS; daughter, Danielle Cassell (David Hutchin) of Fredericton, NB, and her mother, Anita; siblings, Violet Pittman, Cloy Ritter (Rene), Boyd Cassell, Melvin Cassell (Druce), all of NL, and Ruth Hurley of ON; many nieces and nephews; extended family, Cory Trapp (Shauna) and Derek Trapp (April) of Glace Bay, and Francine Spear (Eric) of BC; Henry and Colleen Rideout of Glace Bay; Poppy to his little buddy Austin; Jacob, Hunter, Haley and her daughter Ava, Cody, Colton, Timothy, Emma, Zander, Sophie, and Kalie. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie Cassell; brother-in-law, George Pittman. Bill served in the Canadian Armed Forces for over 20 years as an Aircraft Technician. Following his military career he owned a small engine business in Gander, NL. Prior to his illness Bill was working for Mackley Equipment in Sydney, a job he loved and looked forward going to. When he wasn’t working he loved to fish and spend time with his family and friends. Bill will be remembered for his big heart, dry sense of humour, and willingness to help others. A sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Cancer and Palliative Care Units at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer Center. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 25, 2017 with Rev. Carol Gillard officiating at the T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS 902-849-4199. A reception to follow.
