Mary Jane deWitte
Glace Bay
With very heavy hearts we regret to announce that Mary ‘Jane’ deWitte(MacKay), of 62 Henry Street, Dominion, passed away peacefully in hospital on Saturday, August 19, 2017, after a very short battle with a very aggressive form of lung cancer. She was surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren, siblings and close friends in the last days/hours that lead to her passing.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter; her daughter, Angelina; her father, John Tobias MacKay; her mother Mary Alice (MacNeil) MacKay; paternal grandparents, Neil Tobias MacKay, Dorothy (Dora) (Pinkston) MacKay; maternal grandparents, Michael MacNeil, Mary Jane (Campbell) MacNeil.
She was survived by her daughter, Jane; grandson, Christopher(Candy); son, Peter(Jillian); granddaughters, Angelina Paige, Taylor; son Earl(Shelly); grandsons, Michael(Megan), Jessie, Jordon(Sarah); granddaughter, Shaelyn; her great-grandson Lyndon and great granddaughter Jordyn; sister, Diane(Wayne); brothers, Michael(Sandra), Neil(Anne), Johnny(Jane); sisters-in-law, Alice, Nancy, Cathy; brother in-law, Emil; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends; her children from China, her students, Haunzhi Jia, Zhentao Lan, Yige Xiao, Zijian Jin. Lastly but certainly not the least, her cat Lucky.
We held a small intimate service in her honour for family at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists on August 21, 2017. Rev. Carol Gillard, officiated the service and music was played by Donnie Campbell. There wasn’t to be a viewing, at Jane’s request as she did not want it to be a day of sadness. In lieu of a wake Jane wanted a Pot-Luck Style “Celebration of Life”, where we invite all family and friends to share stories, memories and photos of happy times you shared with her. Jane’s celebration is scheduled for September 23rd, two weeks before what would have been her 68th birthday. This will take place at the Italian Hall in Dominion, with an open bar from 4-11 p.m. With Jane knowing how serious her condition was she would have wanted a large party for what would be her last birthday.
It was also her wish for her ashes to be laid to rest with those of her husband Pete and her daughter Angelina, which will be done on a date yet to be determined.
In lieu of flowers she asked that her family invite you to make donations in her honour to the Palliative Care Unit of the CB Regional Hospital Cancer Centre to assist patients and care givers in their time of need.
We, the family would like to thank the nursing staff of the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital and the medical staff of the CB Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit as well as her family doctor. They all went above and beyond to make sure that she was comfortable and at peace in her final hours.
