Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Burke, Joseph Gregory (Greg), 58, of Halifax, passed away September 8, 2017 in Halifax. Born in Sydney, Greg was the only son of Katherine and Joseph Burke. Whether it was cooking, gardening, spending time with his family, or working as a civil engineer, Greg lived life to the fullest, doing all the things he loved. Family dinners on Sundays were among his favourite pastimes, where his family would gather to reconnect at the end of the week. He loved to travel the world with his beloved wife, Kristine Ruhloff. His devotion to his daughters Ashley and Riley was unparalleled, and that love was extended to his stepchildren; he beamed with pride at the mention of Shelby and Kristian, whom he loved dearly. Ryder, the family dog, who unexpectedly stole his heart, was as devoted to Greg as Greg was to him. Ryder, in turn, often stole Greg’s side of the bed. Greg was fearless in his short battle with cancer, fighting with the strength of a warrior. Greg’s personal success was matched in spades by his professional accomplishments – he was a well-respected civil engineer who began his career with Satellite Construction. He also served as president of the Nova Scotia Road Builders Association in 1997. He, then, worked with Dexter Construction. And, in 2008, joined McNally Inc. His passion for his job was recognized in 2012 when Greg was named Vice President, Marine Operations for McNally. His family will host a Celebration of Life on September 15, 2017 in the Kenneth C. Rowe Hall at Pier 21 in Halifax from 1 – 4 p.m. Please share your favourite memory of Greg with his family by sending an email to memoriesofgregburke@gmail.com .
