Margaret “Colleen” MacKay Glace Bay It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we the family of Margaret ‘Colleen’ MacKay (nee Ward), announce that on September 15, 2017 the Lord called his beautiful angel home. Colleen passed away peacefully at the Glace Bay General Hospital with her family by her side. Born in Glace Bay on February 12, 1951; Colleen was the youngest daughter of the late Alexander and Mary (Boutilier) Ward. At a young age, Colleen found a love for ice skating which allowed her to blossom into a graceful and beautiful skater on her prized racers. She enjoyed her days relaxing and swimming at the beach where she would spend many hours reading and enjoying the company of others. She had a passion for gardening and certainly had a green thumb. She would spend many hours in her yard ensuring she had flowers blooming from spring thru to the fall. She would always be starting new indoor plants to share with friends and family. Colleen being a “Cat Person”, would open her home to an abandoned kitten or cat and always feed the animals at the Glace Bay Wharf, especially during the winter months. Colleen began her career as a CNA at the VG in Halifax until she moved back home to Dominion, where she worked for several doctors as a medical secretary in Glace Bay and later in Sydney. Colleen leaves behind to mourn, her brothers, Raymond (Laraine) and Roy (Linda), Dominion, and a sister, Delores (Warren) McComber of Nanaimo, BC; sister-in laws, Veronica, Monica and Lorraine, and brother-in-law, David (Linda). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and many cousins and dear friends. Her furry best friend Jack and latest “adoptee” Baby. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Alex; sister, Elaine (Charles), and brothers, Alexander Jr., Fabian and William. The family would like to thank the paramedics for their professionalism and kindness, the staff of the ER and 3rd floor of the Glace Bay General, Palliative Care staff and as well as doctors Carol Boutilier and Rose MacKay (niece). Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Feral and Abandoned Cat Society. “Although today her bright light seems dim with sadness, she will forever shine within our hearts” Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 19, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will take place 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2017 with Father Daniel Bourdreau officiating, both taking place at T.J.
