Obituary of David R. MacDonald

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of David MacDonald at the age of 61, on Dec. 16, 2018. David passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his wife Carol Anne of 38 years. David was surrounded by much love during his illness.
Born in Glace Bay, David was the son of the late Roderick and Norma MacDonald (Livingstone). In his younger years, David was a Chef by trade in the Navy which is where his love of cooking and entertaining began. From there he became an entrepreneur and was a well known meat broker in Ontario. He lead a very successful business, Mac Meats which was very dear to his heart. David had a love for business and in Glace Bay he was famous for his subs. The first business being Swiss BBQ House, then Dave’s Eatery (Submarine) and most recently Renwick Ice Cream, where all the kids and their families knew David and Carol Anne for their yummy treats and gracious smiles.
David had a love for pool where he was once crowned #1 in the region. He loved to travel and camp with his wife, kids and family whenever he had the chance. Cuba and Florida were his happy places. David’s all time favourite hobby was making everyone’s bellies full with good food and laughter.When he entertained and people were happy he was at his happiest. As long as you weren’t late.
David was a very proud husband to his adoring wife Carol Anne, and children, the apples of his eye, Amanda (Cory) Clements and Craig MacDonald and the lights of Grampies life his granddaughters Madison and Emma.
He is survived by his loving sisters Debbi McNeil (Blaine) and Donna Stevens (Tony), his Brother in Law Edward Marshall (Lisa). He cherished his nieces and nephews Krista, Kerri, Katelyn, David, Michael, Justin, Chantal and Dillon. David is survived by his best friend Art Starling, many aunts, uncles, and cousins whom he loved and fondly spoke about.
Beside his parents, David was predeceased by his Mother in Law Shirley Marshall Lyons (Bodhaine) and Best Friend/Brother in Law Billy McNeil.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, December 21, 2018 from 6-8 PM and Funeral Mass on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 11 AM at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199) with Father Daniel Boudreau presiding. Reception to follow.
