Obituary of Michael Harvey
Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Michael P. Harvey, of Halifax, on January 16, 2025. Michael passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
Micheal will be dearly missed by his children, David (Lacey) Harvey and Krista (Stephen) Kerr; his grandson, Austin Kerr; and his siblings, Judy Brown, Jack Harvey, Patricia (Greg) Young, Jane Harvey and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Michael was predeceased by his loving wife, Elaine; his parents, Philip and Dorothy Harvey; his siblings, Wayne Harvey, Fred Harvey, Heather Cane, Kevin Harvey, Cindy Moyle; and brother-in-law, Larry Brown.
Michael grew up in Halifax but later moved to Timberlea with his wife and son. After the passing of Elaine, Mike spent a lot of his time divided between Halifax and Alberta, creating new memories with his family. He was forever the jokester and could make a one liner out of any situation, particularly when you were least expecting it.
Michael loved to dance and on his final day blessed us with one last dance. In his younger years he won many dance competitions and loved going line dancing with his wife. He made his career driving commercial trucks and later in life had a towing company. He spent his free time fishing and building models cars and trucks. Saturday nights in Timberlea he could be found with his best buds for “Saturday night cabin fever” and more recently he spent many evenings playing crib with the girls.
Michael was many things but everyone who knew him can attest that he was a man who loved fiercely, with such kindness that he truly will never be forgotten. He was a man who believed in the power of family, and thought you were only as good as your actions and character. Even in his final weeks he would insist on seeing any company to the door, that was just the type of man Mike was, a true gentleman.
In the last few months of Mike’s life his family and friends came together to ensure he was able to have that bucket list come to life. A big thank you goes to all the family who planned trips and everyone who came to visit to ensure he was surrounded by love and happiness. Vivian for the daily afternoon drinks and company. The biggest thank you goes to Jack for showing what the term “brotherly love” truly means. Thanks to Jack, Mike was able to have a beautiful and wonderful last month, exactly as he hoped, in his home. For that we can’t even begin to express our gratitude.
The family also want to say a special thank you to the entire palliative care team and Vicki Guy.
Interment will be held at a later date in August at The Star of the Sea Cemetery.
