Obituary of Janet R. Mahar

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Janet Mahar (Holman, (nee) Fraughton) on December 16, 2018 at the age of 85. Born in Quinan, Yarmouth County to Rose and John Luc Fraughton, she was the last surviving member of her family of 14. Janet was a registered CNA who was employed for many years with the Halifax Infirmary and the Civic Hospital. In her younger years she was an avid bowler and loved her kitchen parties. She was always proud of her kids and did a fine job instilling in us her giving nature and taught us to respect others. (usually with a slipper lol) She is survived by her children Tom (Lynne), Jane (Jim), Judy, John (Kim), Marion, Kathy (Todd), grandchildren Scott, Gary, Tanya, Michelle, Bev, Vicky, Mark, Mandee, Nikki, TJ, Alex, Tim, and Andrew, and 13 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Victor Holman and second husband Arthur Mahar. Many thanks to Ivy Meadows Nursing Home and the “special” caregivers who gave Mom the extra love and dignity in her final hours. We are sure she was met at the Pearly Gates by her family and her favorite son-in-law John, and is now able to dance around once again! Although we all helped, Kathy was her main caregiver who advocated for her on a daily basis. She may be gone but will never be forgotten and she was loved by all. Rest in peace Bessie! Cremation has been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Bedford. (902-835-4212). A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 from 2-4 PM at the Lion’s Den, 101 Old Beaver Bank Rd, Lower Sackville. Burial to be held at a later date in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a food bank or charity of your choice.
