Obituary of Michael Edward Gouthro

Michael Edward Gouthro Gardiner Mines Nov 12, 1957 – Jan 2, 2025 It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Michael Gouthro, Age 67, announce his passing on Thursday January 2, 2025, at CBRH, Sydney surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, Mike was the son of the late Michael “Mick” and Jessie (Smith) Gouthro. Mike was known for his sense of humor, love of family, and singing karaoke along to his favorite Johnny Cash. Mike enjoyed many years in his chosen career as a carpenter-drywaller. He enjoyed his last working years at Cape Breton Drywall, where he met great friends who referred to him as “Slammin Mike.” He loved to make others laugh with his endless jokes and was always the life of the party. He had a love for his cat Kalli who he treated like his baby. Left to mourn his passing are his daughter Amanda, Ontario, His partner and best friend Agnes Cooke, and her children Greg (Tracy), Russell (Mary Dawn), Bobby (Anita), Neilena (Pernell), Sherry (Edward), Sisters Anna (Reggie Slaunwhite) and Brenda (Tony), Mike was also survived by his fifteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews that he adored as well as a foster brother Reggie Slaunwhite (Alberta). Besides his parents Mike was predeceased by his loving brother Bernie Gouthro. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, 902-849-4199, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., and a Celebration of Life to follow at 2 p.m., with Fr. Daniel Boudreau presiding.
