Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Morrissey
Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elizabeth Ann Morrissey “Betty”, age 85 of Halifax passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024 at Hospice Halifax. Born in Halifax N.S. she was the daughter of Marion and Harry Lafford.
Betty will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her three children, Bernard Morrissey (Kelly), Janet Wheadon (Widowed) and Martin Morrissey (Carla): brothers, Bill Lafford (Judy), Tom Lafford (Pauline) sister Mary de la Ronde (Stephen); Grandchildren, Adam, Jessica, Gillian, Mark, Lyndon, Jenna and Great-grandchild, Harper.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband (Lester Morrissey); brother Frank Lafford, sisters, Carol (Mitty) MacDonald and Catherine (Sissy) Evans and son-in-law Ward Wheadon.
Betty’s impressive memory, love for cooking and nurturing character were perfect skills suited for being a switchboard operator, snack bar employee and most importantly “stay at home Mom.”
Her superpower was taking the simplest ingredients and turning them into a feast. She took pride in her skill and was always delighted to share her recipes and techniques.
When Betty was not in the kitchen she enjoyed knitting in her earlier years, doing puzzles, playing word games, gathering with family and friends and listening to music. Betty’s appreciation for music was something she always enjoyed, especially at concerts and with loved ones. Betty never drove but she enjoyed going on outings and long drives to see new sights and places.
Betty’s, positive attitude, quick whit and one liners will always be remembered. Her words of wisdom were: “It could always be worse.”
The family wishes to thank the supportive staff at Hospice Halifax for their compassion and care. You truly gave our Mom a “beautiful space” to live out her final days.
