Joseph ‘Joe’ Percy Wilson It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Joe Wilson, on October 23, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care with his family by his side. Born in Glace Bay on June 4, 1934 he was the son of the late Joseph and Marie (Winterbottom) Wilson. Joe was a small man in statue but a huge heart always caring and willing to give his time to others. As a young boy, Joe loved to play hockey; his love for hockey continued throughout his life until his mid 70’s, he enjoyed playing against his son. He was a dedicated Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Joe became a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of 18, where he served in the Korean War, Deburt, NS, Germany and C.F.B. Gagetown N.B. which was his last posting for 20 years. After his release Joe took an auto body course and was employed for Island Ford for 10 years. He retired only to start a small auto body shop in his garage for 10 years until he and his wife, Theresa, built Wilson’s Collison which they worked side by side until their retirement. Joe loved his cars especially his thunderbird. He and his beloved wife of 61 years enjoyed life together travelling in their motorhome and on wonderful cruises. The highlight of his life was his trip to South Korea for the 60th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice, he could not believe the changes for his last memories of South Korea, it was on fire. He was amazed at how the children and people honoured the Veterans. He was a pass member of the Dominion Legion Branch 78 and now is currently a member of Branch 3, he was a legion member for 50 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Theresa (Kearley) and their children, Arlene (Mark) Kelly and Gary (Frances) Wilson; his five grandchildren and his 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Trudy (late Jigger) Tracey, Sheilah (Ray) MacMillin, Mitzie (Jack) MacLean, and Camille (late Joe) MacMullin; as well as many nieces and nephews and his cherished dog, Chelsey. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Joanne Marie Wilson; sisters, Myrna and Joanne, and brothers, John, George and Eddie.
